ENT1: eCall plus/service platform
Background and contents
The Action Group "eCall plus/service platform" was set up in the first targeted workshop (TWS 1) in Paris on 29-30 November 2004. The TWS 1 theme was "ITS and reliability of passenger transport".
ECall is a key action in the eSafety-programme of the European Commission which has taken on board lots of items related to emergency notification and incident management.
Key ideas and objectives
The purpose of the ERA-NET TRANSPORT's eCall "plus" is to explore the themes not already addressed by eCall in the eSafety-programme. ECall "plus" aims to provide a more holistic view on the issue, on the basis of a service platform made available to service developers and providers, as well as users.
Expected results and aim of cooperation
The ERA-NET TRANSPORT initiative "eCall plus/service platform" is heading towards project clustering of currently ongoing national projects and setting up a new joint project aiming to develop:
- an operational model for a service bundle in corporating to eCall
- a number of interoperable services made available by the eCall-related technologies
- institutional arrangements
ECall "plus" has also identified key areas which should be taken into account in research projects financed from national transport research funds. In order to ensure harmonized development in the area it is suggested a joint project, a common research plan and coordination for the ERA-NET TRANSPORT members willing to work together in this area.
Participating countries
The participating countries are Finland (leader), The Netherlands and Sweden.
Status and intermediate results
After a careful consideration and benchmarking the ongoing research in Europe the Action Group seized the decision that the need for this Action Group needs to be reconsidered and the time-out should be taken, because there is a lot of activities going on in this field. At the moment the Action Group has stopped in order to avoid the overlapping work with the other projects.
